In May 2017, Jelmer Siemons and Frank Nusteen of the Start2Move Training Center, as a delegate from the Netherlands, participated in Croatia in the EU-cofunded project “Brighter Side of Exercise” with the aim of Raising awareness of the importance of health-enhancing physical activities in the treatment of anorexia and its role in the process of reintegration into society.
After the intermediate meeting held in Zagreb it is time to prepair for September. Here are some thoughts of how it was going so far on the project Brighter Side of Exercise, by Mirna Hajnic.
The 1st meeting was held in University Psychiatric Clinic Ljubljana, Slovenia.
It started with the opening words of Matija Dunaj, principal of Fitness Academy, about the Academy and the project. Karin Sernec md. introduced the clinic’s work. It was interesting to know that they were the first to allow male and female together in the eating disorders ward. All evaluations give excellent feedback. We discussed male anorexy, categorizing anorexia as a female disease, and how all written books have been oriented towards women.A suggestion was made to include a certain amount of time to be spent on mental postulates during the education for the fitness specialists.
The meeting was held in Zagreb on May 12th,2017. Once more Fitness Academy was honored to welcome the experts from 14 countries in Europe.
Everyone did their part of the job from the last meeting in December and were ready to continue the joureny to the Brighter Side of Exercise. After the lectures from Stjepan Heimer prof. dr. sc. and Hrvoje Handl dr. med. spec. psych., participants were divided into 4 groups.
The meeting was held in German Gimnastic Federation headquarters in Frankfurt.
After the greeting, Mr Herbert and Pia showed us around their DTB building and told us more about their Federation and how it was founded.

He belives that the way to go with the treatment of eating disorder (anorexia) is through treatment of their unsecurity or anxiety as a cause of the illness. It is all about creating habits and replacing one bad with another that is good and healthy.
The meeting was held in Athens, Greece on February 9th.
